<p><b>Holstein-Rendsburg</b> ist der Name einer von 1290 bis 1459 bestehenden Linie der <a href="Grafen_von_Schauenburg_und_Holstein" class="mw-redirect" title="Grafen von Schauenburg und Holstein">Schauenburger</a>.

</p>

<div class="mw-heading mw-heading2"><h2 id="Entstehung_und_Untergang_der_Grafschaft">Entstehung und Untergang der Grafschaft</h2></div>

<p>Die Schauenburger herrschten in <a href="Holstein" title="Holstein">Holstein</a> seit 1110/1111. Als 1290 Graf <a href="Gerhard_I._(Holstein-Itzehoe)" title="Gerhard I. (Holstein-Itzehoe)">Gerhard I. von Holstein-Itzehoe</a> starb, wurde sein Anteil an Holstein und Stormarn, <a href="Holstein-Itzehoe" title="Holstein-Itzehoe">Holstein-Itzehoe</a>, vor 1295 in drei Teile geteilt. Es entstanden so die Grafschaften <a href="Holstein-Pl%C3%B6n" title="Holstein-Plön">Holstein-Plön</a>, <a href="Holstein-Pinneberg" title="Holstein-Pinneberg">Holstein-Pinneberg</a> und Holstein-Rendsburg. Holstein-Plön mit <a href="Holstein-Kiel" title="Holstein-Kiel">Holstein-Kiel</a> fiel 1390 an die Rendsburger Linie, die nun den größten Teil der <a href="Holstein" title="Holstein">Grafschaft Holstein</a> regierte, da sie schon zuvor die Teilgebiete <a href="Holstein-Segeberg" title="Holstein-Segeberg">Holstein-Segeberg</a> und Teile von Holstein-Itzehoe geerbt hatte.

</p><p>Der letzte Graf von Holstein-Rendsburg <a href="Adolf_VIII._(Holstein)" title="Adolf VIII. (Holstein)">Adolf VIII.</a> starb 1459. Die Schauenburger Linien waren damit fast ausgestorben, nur die Linie <a href="Holstein-Pinneberg" title="Holstein-Pinneberg">Holstein-Pinneberg</a> existierte noch; sie regierte neben dem kleinen Pinneberger Territorium vor allem das alte Stammland der <a href="Grafschaft_Schaumburg" title="Grafschaft Schaumburg">Grafschaft Schaumburg</a>. Doch Graf <a href="Otto_II._(Schaumburg)" title="Otto II. (Schaumburg)">Otto II.</a> von Schauenburg und Holstein-Pinneberg konnte sein Erblehns-Anrecht auf Holstein-Rendsburg mit allen zugehörigen Gebieten in Holstein und Stormarn nicht durchsetzen. Statt seiner wurde 1460 der König <a href="Christian_I._(D%C3%A4nemark%2C_Norwegen_und_Schweden)" title="Christian I. (Dänemark, Norwegen und Schweden)">Christian I. von Dänemark</a>, ein Neffe von Adolf VIII., dem er zum dänischen Thron verholfen hatte, zum neuen Herrscher über das <a href="Herzogtum_Schleswig" title="Herzogtum Schleswig">Herzogtum Schleswig</a> und die <a href="Holstein" title="Holstein">Grafschaft Holstein</a> gewählt. Die <a href="Equites_Originarii" title="Equites Originarii">Schleswig-Holsteinische Ritterschaft</a> sorgte allerdings mit dem <a href="Vertrag_von_Ripen" title="Vertrag von Ripen">Vertrag von Ripen</a> dafür, dass fortan die Länder Schleswig und Holstein „bliven ewich tosamende ungedelt“, dass ferner die Nachfolge im Herzogsamt jeweils durch Wahl der Ritterschaft zu bestätigen sei und dass schließlich die Kriegs-, Steuer- und Münzbewilligung bei den Ständen lag. Nachfolgende Erbteilungen in den Herzogtümern sollten danach nicht mehr zum Entstehen eigenständiger Staaten führen, sondern von bloßen <a href="Titularherzog" class="mw-redirect" title="Titularherzog">Titularherzogtümern</a>, sogenannten <a href="Paragium" title="Paragium">Paragien</a>, deren Inhaber man als „<a href="Abgeteilte_Herren" title="Abgeteilte Herren">Abgeteilte Herren</a>“ bezeichnete, während die Souveränität beim König und Herzog verblieb. Die Stände konnten diese weitgehenden Regelungen gegenüber dem dänischen König durchsetzen, weil mit der letzten noch verbliebenen Schauenburger Linie der Grafen von Holstein-Pinneberg ein Konkurrent (mit besserem dynastischen Anrecht) zur Auswahl stand. Diese Linie regierte dann noch in Pinneberg und Schaumburg bis zu ihrem Aussterben 1640.
